Well, in short, yes. The previous generation iPad Pro had two camera lenses (wide and ultra-wide), a LiDAR scanner, LED flash, and a microphone. As for the new models, they are equipped with a wide-angle camera, LiDAR scanner, microphone, LED flash and sensor. But what is this sensor?

According to the user manual of the new iPad Pro, it is an ambient light sensor. While the iPad already has a similar sensor on the front of the display to control automatic brightness and True Tone, Apple likely added another sensor on the back to improve the camera.

More specifically, Apple said during the keynote. is that the iPad Pro M4 features next-generation “adaptive” True Tone flash, which senses ambient lighting conditions to improve document scanning by removing shadows using hardware and artificial intelligence. This new ambient light sensor is likely used to adjust the color of the True Tone adaptive flash when taking document photos.

If Apple also plans to use this sensor for some feature that has not yet been implemented yet, it has not yet been released, and we'll have to wait to find out.

The new iPad Pro M4 is now available in the US starting at $999.
