ChatGPT's expanded voice mode with added video and screen sharing (plus Santa mode)

Today, OpenAI unveiled two new ChatGPT features as part of its 12 Days of OpenAI Campaign. Specifically, ChatGPT is exploring how to incorporate video input and screen sharing into a voice conversation. And while the company is in the festive mood, there's a fun new Santa mode just in time for the holidays.

ChatGPT Santa

Let’s start with Santa. OpenAI is bringing Santa into the world with a new voice option for ChatGPT. The mode even transforms ChatGPT’s voice ball into a snow globe of sorts, with a snowflake icon replacing the voice button.

Santa is rolling out globally starting today and will be available as a preset voice until early January, the company says. Every conversation with ChatGPT’s Santa is temporary by default, without affecting your chat history or memory.

Next up is a feature that will be available after the holidays, too. Video and file sharing capabilities are coming to ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode. Here’s how to use it:

Open ChatGPT for iPhone or Android
Tap the voice icon next to the chat bar
Tap the new video icon in the lower-left corner to bring up video input
Or tap the three-dot menu and select “Share Screen” to share your screen

OpenAI says the feature will roll out in the next few days for ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro users in “most countries” and all Team users. “We hope to soon provide access to ChatGPT Plus and Pro users in the EU, Switzerland, Iceland, Norway, and Liechtenstein,” OpenAI adds. “We plan to launch for Enterprise and Edu users in January”

Once you enable video and screen sharing, you can communicate using ChatGPT's advanced voice mode without having to describe your surroundings or screen.
