Breaking News: Apple Event Announcement, iPad Pro with M4 Chip, New Beats Headphones and More

It's been a while since the last event, but the Apple event is finally around the corner! While this is expected to be a fairly short pre-recorded event, we expect to see the first updates to the iPad lineup in over a year and a half, so be sure to tune in to see what Apple has in store.


Other news and rumors this week included the unveiling of several Apple Beats brand products, a review of rumors about updates to standard Apple apps coming in iOS 18 , as well as other changes to Apple's EU policy related to the Digital Markets Act, so read below for all the details!

What to do? Look out for the Apple Event on May 7

Apple's first event of 2024 begins on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 a.m. PT, and we've put together our usual pre-event guide outlining what we're planning . I expect to see it on Tuesday. Several new products are expected to be unveiled, including two new iPad Pro models, two new iPad Air models, an updated Apple Pencil, and an updated Magic Keyboard for iPad.

One rumor in particular was In a surprise this week, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said there's a “strong chance” the new iPad Pro models will feature Apple's next-generation M4 chip rather than the M3 chip that debuted in the MacBook Pro and iMac. six months ago. Gurman believes that the M4 chip will have an updated Neural Engine, which will be able to process artificial intelligence (AI) tasks faster.

In addition, the new Apple Pencil is rumored to have haptic feedback.

Beats Solo Buds Coming in June for Just $79.99

Apple unveiled two new Beats headphones this week, including the on-ear Beats Solo 4 and compact Beats Solo Buds.

Released in June, the Beats Solo Buds are especially interesting given their competitive price of $79.99. Key features include four sizes of ear tips, up to 18 hours of battery life, a USB-C carrying case, and Find My support on iOS and Android. However, the Solo Buds lack active noise cancellation and the carrying case does not have a built-in battery.

In other Beats news, LeBron James and Daniel Ricciardo were spotted in public with an unreleased column. clearly descended from the discontinued Beats Pill family, so it looks like the popular portable speaker could make a comeback in the not-too-distant future.

iOS 18 is rumored to add new features to these 16 apps on your iPhone

Apple's annual WWDC developer conference is less than six weeks away, which means the iOS 18 beta is right around the corner.

iOS 18 is here soon. It is rumored to include major updates to many of the iPhone's built-in apps, including Apple Music, Messages, Calculator, Notes, Safari and more. We recently listed the new features expected for each app, so check out the list for a full overview.

Apple confirms that iPadOS will receive the same changes to EU apps this fall as iOS

According to Apple, all the app changes recently introduced on iPhone in the EU will also be available on iPad in the EU starting this fall.

This news comes after the EU ruled that the iPad is a “gatekeeper” platform. Apple has six months to ensure compliance with the Digital Markets Act on iPad, so alternative app stores, support for web browser engines other than WebKit, and more will likely be available in iPadOS 18.1.
