Bad Monkey Season 2 Coming to Apple TV+

One of my favorite Apple TV+ shows of the year, Bad Monkey, is officially getting a second season from Apple. Here's the full announcement.

Bad Monkey's New Season Won't Follow Book Sequel

Variety has some good news about the upcoming second season of Bad Monkey.

Interestingly, it doesn't seem to be going the way many viewers expected.

Joe Otterson writes:

The first season was based on Carl Hiaasen's novel of the same name. There is a sequel to the Bad Monkey novel called Razor Girl, but Season 2 will not be based on that book, according to a person familiar with the production.

Season 2 may take a different path, since Razor Girl will serve as the basis for a future season. Co-creator Bill Lawrence has previously hinted that he has a three-season arc planned for Bad Monkey.

Speaking of Lawrence, here's his quote about the second season renewal:

“I hope people know that Carl Hiaasen is an idol of mine and an inspiration to me as a writer,” Lawrence said. “To continue to tell his story with Vince Vaughn and this great cast, at least the characters who are still alive, is really exciting. I’m incredibly grateful to our partners at Apple TV+ and Warner Bros., as well as the entire team that helps bring this show to life.”

The first season of Bad Monkey debuted this summer and ultimately dominated the top spots on the Apple TV+ charts for much of its run.

In case you weren’t aware, Bad Monkey is the third Apple TV+ series from Bill Lawrence, who also co-created Ted Lasso and Shrinking. In my opinion (and likely many others), Lawrence is responsible for three of the best shows Apple has made to date.

A release date for season 2 hasn’t been announced yet, but hopefully we’ll see Bad Monkey return sometime in August 2025, a year after season 1 premiered.
