AT&T has started displaying “Turbo” on the iPhone carrier label for customers who have signed up for its premium network prioritization service, according to a Reddit post. The new indicator appears to have started appearing after users updated to iOS 18.1.1, but that could just be a coincidence.

The Turbo feature provides improved network performance by prioritizing access to data, offering improved speeds and lower latency for activities like gaming and video streaming. Previously, customers had limited ways to confirm the service was enabled other than checking their network’s technical settings. With the new label, Turbo subscribers can easily check when the $7 monthly surcharge is active on their line.
Some users said they weren't too happy with the longer carrier text in their iPhone's status bar, but others don't mind because it gives them a clear visual indicator of their premium network status. AT&T says the icon may occasionally appear when Turbo is inactive, such as when connected to Wi-Fi or when a customer's hotspot limit is exceeded.
