Apple Watch Ultra 3: Three New Features Coming Next Year

The Apple Watch Ultra, with the exception of a very nice new titanium black color, hasn't received a major update since 2023. But that's all set to change next year when the Apple Watch Ultra 3 arrives. Here are three new features coming to the Apple Watch Ultra 3 in 2025.

High Blood Pressure Detection

New health features are something you can always expect from Apple Watch updates. According to Mark Gurman, Apple plans to roll out a high blood pressure detection feature in 2025:

The blood pressure feature… is designed to work similarly to Apple’s sleep apnea detector. It won’t give users a specific reading — like diastolic or systolic pressure — but it will let them know that they may be high.

Gurman notes that the project has been in the works for years and has faced delays before, but is now scheduled to launch in 2025.

Satellite Messaging Without an iPhone

The Apple Watch Ultra has always been aimed at adventurers and explorers, even though the product has gained a following with more everyday needs. Next year, Apple will add a new feature designed specifically for those who like to be off the grid.

Satellite messaging will be coming to the Apple Watch Ultra 3.

The technology will allow smartwatch users to send offline text messages via Globalstar Inc.'s satellite fleet when they don't have cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.

iPhone users have had the technology for years, and it got even better with the critical iOS 18 update. However, the Apple Watch never got its own satellite connection. With the new Ultra 3, it's easier than ever for users to leave their iPhone at home to truly enjoy the great outdoors.

better battery life is the most important factor for the upgrade, let the watch last at least 72 hours. if they can do that, I will definitely buy it. if they can do that and something else, I would like a more convenient form factor. as for the software, they should only allow you to use the watch buttons during a workout.

This third update also focuses on connectivity. While previous Apple Watch Ultra models were limited to 4G LTE connectivity, Apple plans to add 5G to the Ultra 3 next year.

This update will reportedly take the form of 5G Redcap, a less power-hungry version of 5G. Redcap can't reach the same top speeds as your iPhone's 5G, but it also ensures that your watch won't take a big hit to its battery.

Apple Watch Ultra 3 Review

The new Apple Watch Ultra 3 isn't expected to arrive until fall 2025, so there's still plenty of time for additional features to leak. But right now, it looks like Apple is betting on the Ultra 3 as the ultimate watch for adventurers.
