Apple to Release iOS 18.1 With Apple Intelligence Features on October 28, Reportedly

Apple plans to release iOS 18.1 to the public on October 28, which will include some of the first Apple Intelligence features, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

That's against previous expectations for a mid-October launch, but Gurman says that's because the company is taking its time to make sure it irons out all the bugs and also to make sure its private cloud computing servers can handle all the traffic from millions of public users installing the update.

iOS 18.1 features

With iOS 18.1 potentially coming on October 28, that means iPhone 16 users will finally be able to use some of Apple's promised Intelligence features, just a month after the phone's launch. While some of the features coming in iOS 18.1 may not be the most exciting.

After installing the update, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 users will be able to try out the following features:

  • Writing tools
  • A new Siri UI (though the real new UI won't be coming until later)
  • Notification summaries
  • Creating a memory in Photos
  • Cleanup in Photos
  • Intelligent breakthrough with notifications

Rolling out Apple Intelligence

However, some of the most exciting features are still to come, and will be gradually rolled out between now and the spring:

  • October: iOS 18.1 with the features listed above
  • December: iOS 18.2 with ChatGPT, Genmoji, and Image Playground support
  • Early 2025: iOS 18.3 or iOS 18.4 with a new Siri rollout

So, even though the new features are just starting to roll out, it will be a while before everything is fully rolled out. Hopefully, by the time the new iPhone SE 4 launches, all of the Apple Intelligence features will be fully rolled out.
