Apple has asked its suppliers for OLED panels intended for future iPad mini models, ZDNET Korea reports.
Samsung Display has reportedly begun developing samples of 8-inch OLED panels for the future iPad mini Last month, the company plans to begin mass production at its Cheonan plant in the second half of 2025. The move is apparently also visible in Samsung's own supply chain in Korea. Samsung is already supplying Apple with OLED panels for the new iPad Pro, which features a tandem design for improved brightness and power efficiency. The report adds that Apple will introduce an OLED panel for the iPad Air along with the iPad mini in 2026.
Apple's plans to release iPad mini and iPad Air OLED displays are currently widely rumored. Research firm Omdia believes the iPad Air will get an OLED display in 2026 with the iPad mini will follow in 2027, but Korean publication ET News agrees with ZDNET that both models will be updated with OLED at the same time in 2026, and there is a chance that Apple will delay the introduction of OLED in the 13-inch iPad Air until 2027. While the OLED display of the iPad Air will retain the 11-inch display, the iPad mini screen size may increase from 8.3 to 8.7 inches.
Unlike the latest Apple models &zwnj ;iPad Pro models that feature dual-tier low-temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) OLED panels, iPad mini and iPad Air may have single-layer low-temperature polycrystalline silicon (LTPS) panels, meaning they may be dimmer and still lack ProMotion.
