Apple releases tvOS 17.5.1 to fix photo corruption bug causing deleted images to reappear

by Julie Clover

Apple today released tvOS 17.5.1, a minor update to the tvOS 17 operating system released last September. tvOS 17.5.1 is released one week after the release of tvOS 17.5.

tvOS 17.5. 1 can be downloaded using the Settings app on Apple TV. Go to System > Software update to get new software. Owners of ‌‌Apple TV‌‌ who have automatic software updates enabled will be automatically updated to tvOS 17.5.1.

Compared to other operating system updates, tvOS updates are often small in scope and focused on fixes bugs and other small improvements. According to Apple's release notes, the update fixes a bug in the Photos app that could cause deleted images to reappear.

This update resolves a rare issue where photos whose database was corrupted could reappear in the Photos Library even if they were deleted.

Apple fixed the same bug on iPhone and iPad with the iOS 17.5.1 and iPadOS 17.5.1 updates released yesterday.

We don't know what's new in the update, but it may be related to the same ‌ Photos‌ a bug that was fixed yesterday in iOS 17.5.1.
