by Hartley Charlton

Apple today announced that it has cut its greenhouse gas emissions by more than half since 2015, moving toward its goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2030.

Apple's latest Environmental Progress Report details the company's efforts and innovations in clean energy, efficient recycling practices, and sustainable use of materials that contributed to a significant reduction in emissions. . According to the report, much of the reduction was driven by the company's widespread use of clean energy, including the integration of recycled materials into Apple's product line and improved energy efficiency throughout the global supply chain.

For several years, Apple has made significant strides in recycling and recovering materials as part of its broader environmental strategy. The company has increased its use of recycled cobalt and lithium in its batteries, with last year's statistics showing that 56% of the cobalt and 24% of the lithium used came from recycled materials. These efforts are part of a broader initiative to transition to 100% recycled and renewable materials in all products.

The report also highlights advances in energy efficiency and renewable energy. Apple's Clean Energy for Suppliers program currently produces more than 16.5 gigawatts of clean energy, supporting projects around the world. The program has been instrumental in reducing the carbon emissions of Apple and its suppliers, who together saved more than two billion kilowatt-hours of electricity last year. The company is also actively removing plastic from its packaging, switching to fiber-based alternatives.

Apple also provides financial support to various organizations and programs aimed at improving environmental conditions and promoting sustainability education. For example, in the US, Apple supports the Justice Outside Network for Network Leaders, a program that focuses on outdoor and environmental education.
