Apple News in iOS 17.5 will introduce offline viewing to subscribers of the Today and News+ tabs

Today Apple released the RC build of iOS 17.5 among other OS updates, and the release notes announced a valuable improvement coming to the app Apple News for News+ subscribers.

We've known for a long time that News+ would be getting a new Quartiles game with the release of iOS 17.5. Now it looks like another key feature is available to subscribers.

iOS 17.5 will allow you to browse news offline

News+ users running iOS 17.5 will be able to view the Today and News+ tabs of the app ” News” even while offline. Previously, most of the application stopped working if you were offline, except for stories that you intentionally saved. But now you can fully read the news without an Internet connection.

It's unclear how efficiently iOS will download articles on the fly so you always have something to read. This works entirely behind the scenes. The Settings app provides options to configure automatic downloads of various types: Recent Stories. “, “Saved Stories”, “Magazine Issues”, “Puzzles” and “Audio Stories”. Each content type can be turned on or off based on your preferences, so News only loads what you want.

In my testing using the iOS 17.5 beta, the News app provided a significant number of offline articles . so that I could enjoy even when I had no connection. Your experience may vary, but what I found was encouraging.

9to5Mac's Opinion

Apple News is one of my favorite ways to get news, so I've always found it frustrating when, for example, I'm flying and I can only access my previously saved stories. This change should provide a much better reading experience in the future, and I'm looking forward to it.

The News app can be used for more than just games.
