Apple Music app for iOS 18 for smarter transitions between songs

By Julie Clover

In iOS 18 and macOS 15, the Apple Music app will get smarter transitions between songs, AppleInsider reports. Apple is reportedly testing a new feature called Smart Song Transitions, which would be an improvement on the current crossfade option that kicks in when transitioning from one song to another.

Thanks to smart song transitions ‌Apple Music‌ Users will be able to adjust the crossfade duration from 1 to 12 seconds. As it stands, crossfade bridges the gap between songs by reducing the volume of the ending song while simultaneously increasing the volume of the new song, creating a successful transition without the music ever ending.

AppleInsider says Apple is also working on a new feature under title “Passthrough” for ‌Apple Music‌ and QuickTime Player, but there is no information about what this function is. The site suggests this is related to spatial audio with Dolby Atmos.

Similarly, Apple is reportedly working on a “Spatial Gaming” feature internally, but there are no details on what that might be either. .

‌iOS 18‌ will be presented at the Worldwide Developers Conference, which begins on Monday, June 10.
