Apple Launches New iPhone 14 Service Program to Fix 'Rear Camera Issue'

Apple today launched a new service program for iPhone 14 Plus models that could affect a “very small percentage” of units that may be missing the rear camera preview. This is the first iPhone service program in a couple of years, the last one was in 2021 when some iPhone 12 models had an earpiece speaker issue.

This new service program is for iPhone 14 Plus models sold between April 10, 2023, and April 28, 2024, and could impact about a year of iPhone 14 Plus models. The iPhone 14 Plus was released in September 2022, so the issue occurred later.

You can check if your iPhone 14 Plus is affected by this issue by entering your serial number on Apple's website. If you are affected by this issue, Apple will fix it for free, as long as there is no other damage to your iPhone.

Apple says this program covers eligible iPhone 14 Plus models for 3 years from the original purchase date. Additionally, if you paid to have your iPhone 14 Plus serviced for this issue, you can request a refund.

If your iPhone does require service, Apple will “verify” that it is eligible for service. You have several options for getting your repair done, including:

  • Find an Apple Authorized Service Provider
  • Schedule an appointment at an Apple Retail Store
  • Contact Apple Support to arrange mail-in service through an Apple Repair Center

Last but not least, this issue only affects iPhone 14 Plus models sold during the aforementioned period. If you have an iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Pro, or iPhone 14 Pro Max, you are not eligible for this service program.
