Apple has released new firmware for AirPods Pro 2, the first update since iOS 18.1 added support for powerful new hearing health features. AirPods 4 also received the update. Here are the details.
11/12 Update: A day later, Apple released the same firmware builds to developers.
The new firmware is the first since iOS 18.1's hearing health features
The latest firmware release for the AirPods Pro 2 was build 7B19.
This update was released shortly before iOS 18.1 introduced a trio of new Apple hearing health features:
- Hearing Aids
- Hearing Test
- Security hearing
Today, the company released build 7B21 for all AirPods Pro 2 models.
It's unclear what changes the latest firmware brings, but it likely offers improvements and fixes to some of the new features introduced in the previous build.
The AirPods 4, similarly, were recently updated to version 7B19, but without the hearing health features that are exclusive to the Pro.
Today, Apple released a new build 7B20 for AirPods 4 users.
Apple's AirPods firmware page has information about the updates. These are standard “Bug fixes and other improvements” releases.
As with all AirPods firmware updates, you can't manually trigger the new firmware download, but your AirPods will take care of it themselves in the coming days.
