Apple Adds iPhone XS Max and Other Models to List of Obsolete/Irrelevant Products

Apple today added several older iPhone and Apple Watch models to its list of vintage and obsolete products on its website.

Apple has now classified the iPhone 6s Plus and iPhone XS Max as “vintage” worldwide. Apple considers a device “vintage” if it has been five years since Apple stopped selling it. Apple and Apple Authorized Service Providers sometimes offer repairs for legacy devices, but only if parts are still available.

Note that if you have an iPhone 6s Plus with 32GB of storage, that particular configuration was already classified as “legacy” before today.

Apple has not yet added the smaller iPhone XS and iPhone 6s models to the “legacy” list.

In addition, the aluminum and stainless steel Apple Watch Series 2 models are now classified as “legacy” worldwide, but the high-end Series 2 model with a ceramic case has not yet been added to that list. Apple considers a device “legacy” if it has been seven years since the company stopped distributing it. Once a device reaches obsolescence, it can no longer be repaired by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider, with the exception of MacBook battery replacement for up to 10 years.
