According to rumors, the iPhone 16 Pro will have a new display with 20% increased brightness

Days after the iPad Pro M4 debuted with what Apple calls “the world's most advanced display,” new rumors have surfaced , indicating that Ultra Retina XDR for iPad isn't the only display innovation the company has in store this year. The iPhone 16 Pro should also take a step forward.

20% more nits for iPhone 16 Pro

Weibo insider Instantly Digital reports that the iPhone 16 Pro will feature a display that peaks at 1,200 nits in normal use (i.e. with SDR content). That would be a significant 20% increase over the 1,000 nits supported on the iPhone 15 Pro.

When Apple describes display specs for its devices, it usually lists a typical maximum brightness, which refers to how bright the screen will be. for everyday use when HDR content is not displayed. It also has a separate peak brightness for HDR content.

The iPhone 15 Pro and several earlier iPhone generations had a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits and 1,600 nits for HDR. According to this rumor, the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro will have an even better brightness of 1200 nits for everyday viewing. The phone is expected to retain the same 1,600 peak nits for HDR content.

One of Instant Digital's previous reports was confirmed this week, as they accurately predicted back in March that the new iPad Pro would offer a matte display option . The iPad Pro M4's nanotextured glass was a surprise to many observers.

9to5Mac's Opinion

It is noteworthy that just days after Apple unveiled its most advanced display ever, we've heard rumors of a new iPhone display that will surpass the Ultra Retina XDR in brightness. The iPad Pro M4's maximum brightness in normal use is 1,000 nits, meaning the iPhone 16 Pro could surpass that within months.
