Following our report that Apple was internally testing iOS 18.2.1 for iPhone, an anonymous social media account with a proven track record of sharing iOS-related information has revealed the build number of the upcoming software update: 22C161.
Now that the build number is known, the update is confirmed.
When an anonymous account shares the build number for an upcoming iOS version, the update is typically released within a week. However, given that it's the holiday season, it may take longer for the update to roll out. We continue to respect the account’s request not to link to their social media posts.
iOS 18.2.1 is intended to be a minor update that fixes bugs and/or security vulnerabilities, but it’s unclear exactly what issues might be addressed. We’re not aware of any critical, widespread bugs at this time, but Apple has apparently identified various bugs and/or security vulnerabilities that it wants to fix before iOS 18.3 rolls out.
Apple began testing iOS 18.3 with developers and public beta testers earlier this month. The update will likely be released to all users in January or early February, and so far only minor changes have been discovered.
