Apple is expected to release the AirTag 2 next year, and there are already rumors of several new features and changes for the item tracker.

Here's what to expect from the AirTag 2:

  • The new AirTag is expected to feature Apple's second-generation Ultra Wideband chip for increased range. The chip debuted last year in the iPhone 15 and Apple Watch Ultra 2, and Apple said it provides three times the range of the first-generation Ultra Wideband chip in the current AirTag. The iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models have a pinpoint feature that can help you find friends in busy areas, and it offers a range of up to 60 meters (about 200 feet). The new AirTag may have a similar range.
  • The new AirTag's built-in speaker is expected to be harder to remove as a security measure related to stalking.
  • The new AirTag is rumored to have improved integration with Apple Vision Pro, but there are no specific details about it.
  • No major design changes are expected.

The new AirTag is rumored to be released in mid-2025. The current AirTag debuted in April 2021.
