macOS Sequoia 15.3 Brings Genmoji to Mac

Julie Clover

The macOS Sequoia 15.3 beta brought Genmoji to the Mac, allowing Mac users to use custom-made emoji characters for the first time. ‌Genmoji‌ were included in iOS 18.2 and iPadOS 18.2, but the feature wasn't available in the macOS 15.2 update.

With ‌Genmoji‌ Mac users can enter a text prompt to create a custom symbol that behaves just like emoji on devices running iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, ‌macOS Sequoia‌ 15.1 and later. On earlier versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, as well as on Android devices, ‌Genmoji‌ appear as images.

Genmoji can be added from the emoji picker on the keyboard, which can be activated by pressing Control + Command + Space in an app like Notes, or by tapping the emoji icon in Messages.

Genmoji is an Apple Intelligence feature available on all Macs with Apple silicon. All Genmoji generation is done directly on the device.
