Uber iOS app gets new home screen widget for quick ride booking

Uber announced some updates to its app this holiday season on Wednesday. In addition to a new category called UberXXL, the company also introduced a new home screen widget for iPhone and iPad users.

Uber Adds Home Screen Widget and More to Its iOS App

The latest version of the Uber app for iOS comes with a home screen widget that lets users request a ride to suggested locations in just a few taps.

“Your time is precious, especially during the holiday rush. That’s why we’re making it easier for you to request a ride. Starting today, iPhone users can add a new Uber widget to their home screen to make it even easier to request a ride — in just two taps,” the company announced in a blog post.

In addition to the new widget, there are other changes coming with the update. These include a new UberXXL category that allows users to request cars with even larger cargo spaces, which is ideal when you have extra luggage or are traveling in a large group. UberXXL is rolling out on routes covering more than 60 airports around the world.

Uber will also offer travelers heading to the airport the option to split a ride with an additional passenger traveling on the same route. With this option, the cost of the ride will be reduced by up to 25% compared to the UberX fare. The app will also allow users to add flight information to get recommendations on the best time to leave and call an Uber.

The Uber app is available for free in the App Store and requires a device running iOS 16.2 or later. Make sure you have the latest version of the app to access the new features.
