Apple Releases Second Beta of visionOS 2.2 to Developers with Ultrawide Mac Virtual Display

By Julie Clover

Apple today made the second beta of the upcoming visionOS 2.2 update available for developers to test, with the beta coming just over a week after the first visionOS 2.2 beta.

visionOS 2.2 can be installed by going to the Software Update section of the Settings app on the Vision Pro and selecting Beta updates.

The visionOS 2.2 update adds a new feature to the Mac Virtual Display setting, allowing it to be set to Wide and Ultrawide. The Ultrawide setup is equivalent to two 4K displays side by side, and it's a marked improvement over the current Mac Virtual Display available in visionOS 2.1.

Mac Virtual Display lets you connect the Vision Pro to a Mac, with the Vision Pro acting as a display for the machine. The Mac Virtual Desktop works just like a standard desktop with an external display, but the Vision Pro doesn't support multiple displays. As a solution, Apple has added the ability to use a wider display to maximize the space.
