Apple will release a “complete redesign” of the MacBook Pro in 2026, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. Traditionally, Apple has stuck to a four-year development cycle for the MacBook Pro, but it looks like the M5 update will just be another chip refresh — and we'll have to wait another year to see a full redesign.
In this issue of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman wrote that “the MacBook Pro probably won't get another real redesign until 2026.” According to Gurman, Apple previously targeted 2025 for the next MacBook Pro refresh, but there have been delays related to display technology.
Apple is expected to switch to OLED for the next major MacBook Pro refresh, borrowing technology from the new M4 iPad Pros.
This new MacBook Pro will also feature a “thinner design.” Apple previously made the MacBook Pro a bit thicker when they first switched to Apple Silicon, but now it looks like Apple will change course. Hopefully, this won't result in any major compromises.
Gurman also mentions that the M6 chip will likely be built on a new 2nm process, which will bring new display technology, a new design, and a big performance boost all in one update.
As for the 2025 MacBook Pro, you can expect a jump in the M5, M5 Pro, and M5 Max chips, but nothing major beyond the chip upgrades.
