While Apple announced the new iPad mini in a press release last week, the company still has bigger plans to announce new Macs this month. With supplies running low at Apple Stores, we're expecting updates to the MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, and more.
According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple won't be holding a “full-blown iPhone-style event” for the new Macs. Instead, Gurman expects it to be an “online-focused” launch, while the press will still be offered a hands-on experience.
Gurman says:
The latest Mac news: Apple’s retail stores are very low on iMacs, Mac minis, and MacBook Pros, as well as the Magic Keyboard, Magic Mouse, and Magic Trackpad. I still expect the imminent M4 updates for the iMac and MacBook Pro, as well as a full-blown Mac mini refresh.
I haven’t seen any evidence that Apple will hold a full-blown iPhone-like event at its headquarters with press. Instead, I would expect the announcement to be focused online with the possibility of in-person press participation, not too dissimilar to last year’s Scary Fast.
This description is in line with other recent announcements from Apple, like the “Let Loose” iPad event in May and the “Scary Fast” Mac event in October 2023. In both cases, there was no in-person attendance at Apple Park. Instead, the events were streamed online for everyone to watch, while members of the press were invited to smaller gatherings in cities like New York and London.
Last October, Apple announced its “Scary Fast” event for October 24, with the event itself taking place on October 30. This suggests we could get an Apple event announcement for the M4 Mac as early as tomorrow. Gurman previously reported that the M4 Macs could launch on November 1.
