Gourmet: Apple smart glasses and AirPods with cameras may appear in 2027

According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple is preparing several additional vision-based products. We're expecting smart glasses similar to the ones Meta created in collaboration with Ray-Ban, as well as AirPods with cameras. These products won't be released until at least 2027, if at all.

According to the report, Apple wants to salvage some of its multibillion-dollar R&D investment in Apple Vision Pro visual intelligence by bringing the technology to more products. We’ve already seen this with the announcement of visual intelligence with camera control on the iPhone 16, and Apple’s next move is reportedly to bring this to the glasses form factor.

The glasses won’t be full-on AR glasses with displays, but rather smart glasses with built-in cameras, speakers, and microphones — similar to Meta’s Ray Bans, which have become quite popular. Meta is selling these glasses for just $299, though there are pricier frames you can choose from.

Also, the company is still planning AirPods with cameras, as previously reported. It’s unclear why they would be an attractive product instead of just glasses, and it seems like AirPods would be a bad product for outward-facing cameras, but Apple is still experimenting with the form factor for visual intelligence features.
