Unreleased M4 MacBook Pro Listed for Sale on Russian Site as Leaks Appear Real

Following the emergence of photos of the M4 MacBook Pro box and a subsequent unboxing video, the unreleased model has been put up for sale on a Russian classifieds site – naturally, at a greatly inflated price.

Several listings were posted before the listings were removed, and it is now looking increasingly likely that the leaks are real …

Apple Pro tweeted a screenshot of one of the listings that appeared to offer the base model of the 14-inch M4 MacBook Pro with previously announced specs of 16GB of combined storage, a 512GB SSD, and three Thunderbolt 4 ports.

We've also seen Geekbench results for a machine identified as the “Mac 16,1.” with characteristics matching the stated specifications.

This is not a one-off leak, but rather a claim of about 200 units in stock.

The listing on Avito asked for a price of 720,000 rubles, which is about $7,400.

Moreover, it appears that there was more than one laptop for sale. The price in rubles was listed as 720,000, but with a note that it changes daily and it is best to check. The listing has now been removed, as the site's rules prohibit the sale of “non-existent” products.

Apple is expected to announce the device later this month, with it set to go on sale on November 1.

9to5Mac's Take

As we noted earlier this week, the specs are likely accurate, and while the listing could be a scam designed to capitalize on the video, it's now looking increasingly likely that the leaks are real.

US trade sanctions mean that Apple products are not sold in Russia through official channels, so it's unlikely that the devices came from that country. At this point, the smartest bet would be a theft from a Chinese warehouse.

The description doesn't reveal anything new about the claimed car.
