First Script for Vision Pro Immersive Movie Coming This Week, Here's the Trailer

The Vision Pro is a fantastic device for video, especially for anything shot in Apple's “Immersive Video” format. Until now, all of Immersive Video content has been unscripted: things like sports, world adventures, and nature docs. But this week marks the release of Immersive Video's first scripted, feature-length project, Submerged. You can watch the trailer now.

The Submerged trailer previews the unique immersive video

Submerged will be available for free to all Vision Pro users starting this Thursday, October 10th at 12:00 PM ET/9:00 AM PT. It will be available in the Apple TV app.

The short film was written and directed by an Academy Award-winning director, making it stand out from other immersive videos Apple has produced to date. Director Edward Berger is best known for films like All Quiet on the Western Front and the upcoming Conclave.

Here's Apple's rundown of what to expect from the new short:

Underwater takes viewers aboard a World War II submarine and follows its crew as they cope with a terrifying torpedo attack. This immersive, adrenaline-pumping ride showcases the unique storytelling experience made possible by Apple Immersive Video, a remarkable media format that uses ultra-high-definition 3D video and spatial audio to place viewers at the center of the action.

The debut trailer is interspersed with director commentary explaining the creative possibilities offered by Vision Pro.

9to5Mac's Take

Apple's Immersive Video has had a slow start to releasing new content, but it's picked up speed.

Over the past few months, Apple has released several other Immersive Videos for Vision Pro users. These include new series Boundless and Elevated, a Super Bowl LVIII short, and Paris's Parkour.

If you've watched any Immersive Video, you'll probably agree that the format feels a lot like the future of television.

Releasing the first written Immersive Video to the world is a big step toward that future.
