This year, Apple introduced the auto-generated transcripts feature in its Podcasts app so that users could follow real-time transcripts of shows available on Apple Podcasts. Now the company is expanding auto-generated transcripts to more languages.

Apple expands auto-generated podcast transcripts to more languages

In an email sent to podcast creators on Wednesday, Apple said auto-generated transcripts in Apple Podcasts are now available in eight additional languages, including Portuguese, Italian, and Swedish. Previously, the feature was only available in four languages. The full list of supported languages can be found below:

  • English
  • Danish
  • Dutch
  • Finnish
  • French
  • German
  • Italian
  • Norwegian
  • Portuguese (Brazil and Portugal)
  • Spanish
  • Swedish

Auto-generated transcripts came to Apple Podcasts with iOS 17.4 in January. Apple explains that podcast transcripts are available “shortly after” a podcast is published.

Apple automatically generates transcripts after a new episode is published. Your episode will be available to listen to immediately, and the transcript will be available shortly thereafter. There will be a short delay while we process your transcript. If parts of your episode change with dynamically inserted audio, Apple Podcasts will not show the audio segments that have changed since the original transcript. Lyrics also do not appear in transcripts.

Users can view transcripts by tapping the Quote button on the Now Playing screen in the Podcasts app. The news comes a day after Apple announced new updates to Apple Podcasts, including an easier way to discover narrative episodes.

Apple Podcasts is available on nearly all Apple devices, including iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV, Apple Watch, and HomePod. Make sure your device has the latest software to access the latest features. For more information, visit the Apple Podcasts for Creators webpage.

Thanks, Marcus!
