$1,700 Spacetop Laptop Uses Augmented Reality Glasses Instead of a Display

The Apple Vision Pro can be used as a display for a connected Mac, but it's bulky, heavy, and inconvenient. The Spacetop G1, a new laptop from former Magic Leap employees, promises to solve these problems by pairing the computer with a set of lightweight AR glasses that are more comfortable to wear for long periods of time.


Priced at $1,700 Spacetop it's essentially a keyboard with glasses attached. There is no display, but there is a top case in which you can store glasses when the device is not in use. Videos of the device show users typing on a keyboard while viewing a set of AR windows arranged around them.

Spacetop runs SpaceOS, which the company says is a spatial operating system designed to improve productivity . It's web-focused, allowing you to deliver content without having to hire developers to build apps.

The AR glasses weigh 85 grams, while the Vision Pro weighs between 600 and 650 grams depending on the connected device. Light print. The keyboard is just under 12 inches wide, and the entire setup weighs three pounds, which is heavier than a MacBook Air or iPad Pro.


It includes a Qualcomm Snapdragon QCS8550 chip, 128 GB of internal memory, 16 GB of RAM and two open speakers. The keyboard component has two USB-C ports that allow it to be connected to a traditional external display, and has a battery life of up to eight hours. The glasses feature dual OLED panels with a 1920×1080 resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, and also support special prescription lenses.

The Spacetop G1 will retail for $1,900, but those who reserve them in advance can receive $200 off, bringing the price down to $1,700. You can reserve your car with a refundable deposit of $100. Its deliveries are expected to begin in October 2024.
