X makes password login available to iOS users worldwide

Social network X (formerly Twitter) introduced support for passkeys earlier this year. However, the new option was only available to US iOS users. Today, X makes password login available worldwide.

X rolls out password login worldwide

This news was confirmed by X through his official security account. “Passwords are now available as a login method for all iOS users worldwide! Try it” The company said this in a statement on Monday. X also highlights that using a password makes accounts “less vulnerable to phishing attacks and unauthorized access”; as they are “generated individually by your device.”

Passkey is a technology developed by the FIDO Alliance in collaboration with major companies such as Apple, Google and Microsoft. Instead of traditional passwords, it allows users to log in using secure methods such as facial recognition or biometrics, eliminating the need to create and enter a password.

When X removed support for SMS 2FA, the platform recommended users switch to a different two-factor method authentication using apps such as 1Password, iCloud Keychain or Google Authenticator. Those who still want to use SMS 2FA must subscribe to X Premium.

To enable the passkey on your X account, follow these steps:

  1. Open the X appon your iOS device
  2. Tap your profile picture in the top left corner
  3. Tap Settings & Support > and then Settings and privacy
  4. Click Security and account access
  5. Select Security Options
  6. Turn on the Password switch and confirm your current password

If you are user X, be sure to Download the latest version of the app available on the App Store. More information about enabling passkeys on X can be found here.
