Apple is expected to update the AirPods line with several new models later this year. In a new note to investors on Monday, analyst Jeff Pu reiterated those expectations and said Apple will release new, cheaper “AirPods Lite.” sometime in the second half of 2024.
Pu also confirms that the new AirPods Max will arrive later this year.
AirPods Lite
In the report, Poo explains that AirPods production will increase later this year with the launch of a low-cost model. ” Pu's report focuses on the impact of AirPods production on the overall supply chain of Apple and its partners. Overall, Pu says AirPods sales will decline 4% year-over-year in 2024 to 55 million units due to “subdued demand for existing models.”
Pu doesn't say that . 8217;doesn't give any specific details about what to expect from these low-cost AirPods, which it calls “AirPods Lite.” Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also reported that Apple is working on a low-cost version of AirPods that will be released in 2024. Kuo suggested that the so-called “AirPods Lite” could cost $99. /p>
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has repeatedly reported that Apple plans to introduce AirPods 4 this year with two different models. Both AirPods 4 models are expected to have a new design and a USB-C charging case, but only the more expensive variant will support features like noise cancellation.
As we explained earlier, it's unclear whether this means Pu and Kuo the same low-end version of AirPods 4 as Bloomberg, or a completely different product. We'll likely learn more as the year progresses.
Apple currently sells five different versions of AirPods:
- AirPods (2nd generation) – $129
- AirPods (3rd generation) – $169 (with Lightning charging case) or $179 (with MagSafe charging case)
- AirPods Pro (2nd generation) – $249.
- AirPods Max – $549.
