Oracle warned this week that the macOS 14.4 update released earlier this month for Macs could cause Java processes to “quit unexpectedly.”
In a blog post on Friday, Oracle Senior Director of Product Management Aurelio Garcia-Ribeiro advised Apple Silicon Mac users running Java to avoid upgrading to macOS 14.4 until the problem is resolved. solved by Apple:
An issue introduced in macOS 14.4 causing Java processes to terminate unexpectedly affects all versions of Java from Java 8 to early access builds of JDK 22. There is no workaround. and since there is no easy way to undo a macOS update, affected users may not be able to revert to a stable configuration unless they have a full backup of their systems prior to the OS update.

Oracle says it has notified Apple of the problem. Apple did not immediately respond to our request for comment on this matter.
Update: macOS 14.4 also has compatibility issues with PACE/iLok-protected audio plugins.
