Instagram has been working on a lot of new features for its iPhone app lately. This week, users noticed another new Instagram feature for iOS: a widget that opens the Story camera right from the lock screen.
New Instagram lock screen widget
As many users have noted and confirmed by 9to5Mac, the latest version of the Instagram app for iPhone has a new lock screen widget. The small widget acts as a shortcut that takes the user straight to the Story camera in the Instagram app. The widget works as promised and is very fast. Just one tap and Instagram is ready to take photos or videos.
The new widget will certainly be good news for those who constantly post Stories on Instagram, since the user no longer needs to unlock the phone, find the desired application and only then open the Story camera.
Of course, taking photos with The built-in Camera app on iPhone is always the best option when it comes to capturing high-resolution images and videos. However, some people may prefer to use Instagram as their main camera because of the filters and other effects available in the app. It is very convenient to do this directly from the lock screen.
New features coming soon
Recently 9to5Mac reported that Instagram is also testing App Clip, allowing users to use the Reels short video platform even if they don't have the Instagram app installed. Last year, Instagram implemented support for Live Actions so users could see the progress of a new post or story when switching to another app.
Unfortunately, one thing was not developed. from the Instagram team – the iPad app is a disgrace.
