Best MagSafe Solutions for iPhone and Standby

One of my favorite features in iOS 17 is Sleep mode, which turns your iPhone into a smart display when it's in landscape mode orientation and charging. One of the best ways to take full advantage of standby mode is with a vertical wireless charger.

What is standby mode in iOS 17?

StandBy in iOS 17 is a new lock screen mode that activates when the iPhone is charging and is on its side in landscape orientation. It's similar to the Apple Watch's Night Mode and provides a convenient display of information when you're not actively using your phone.

The standby mode is also highly customizable: you can choose between displaying photos, widgets, and different clock designs. , and more. It has an interactive and customizable photo screen where you can choose to display specific themes, such as Nature, Pets, Cities, and People, or specific albums from your photo library.

The clock screen in standby mode offers various themes such as Digital, Analogue, World, Solar and Floating, some of which display additional information such as temperature or next alarm anxiety. Notifications, interactions, and Siri responses are also integrated into Idle mode and displayed in full screen.

Another smart feature of StandBy is the MagSafe location feature, which remembers your preferred screen and widget configuration based on the location of your charger.

You can enable StandBy mode and manage its settings by going to the Settings app ” on your iPhone and tap the StandBy mode menu.

Belkin makes a number of my favorite Apple accessories, so it's only fitting that they're also my choice for an iPhone standby charger. The Belkin MagSafe 2-in-1 Wireless Charger includes a cradle that can charge your iPhone at 15W, as well as a Qi charging pad built into the base to charge your AirPods.

There are three things I really like about the Belkin 2-in-1 MagSafe Wireless Charger. Firstly, it features a premium design, a durable base and a modern chrome finish. Secondly, its round design means it has a small footprint and doesn't take up too much space on my desk, despite being able to charge two devices at once. Third, it's MagSafe, certified by Apple.

If you're looking for something similar to the Belkin 2-in-1 stand, but with aluminum construction and a lower price, Satechi will help you. The Satechi Aluminum 2-in-1 Magnetic Wireless Charging Stand features a vertical iPhone charging stand and a Qi charging pad built into the base.

Two things to keep in mind. First, the iPhone's maximum wireless charging power is 7.5W because it doesn't support MagSafe. Secondly, you will need your own 18/20W power adapter as Satechi does not include one in the box.

If you're happy with these trade-offs, you can purchase the Satechi 2 In-1 Wireless Charger from Amazon. Like Belkin, they also sell a more expensive 3-in-1 version with built-in Apple Watch charging.

Anker 3-in-1 cube with MagSafe

If there was an award for smartest design, the prize would go to the Anker 3-in-1 Cube with MagSafe. It can charge your iPhone at 15W, fast charge your Apple Watch and AirPods, all in a small foldable cube.

Nomad Stand One

If you're looking for an ultra-premium StandBy charger option for your iPhone, our friends at Nomad have you covered. The Nomad Stand One features a vertical, all-metal and glass design and features a built-in braided USB-C cable for charging. It is MagSafe certified and supports charging speeds of up to 15W.

Nomad Stand One with a 21-degree viewing angle is great for standby mode. The biggest downside is that it costs more and can only charge your iPhone.

I bought HiRise 3 Deluxe from TwelveSouth to replace my bedside clock and it works great. Charges my 14 Pro, Watch Ultra & AirPods 3 no problem. For a bedside display/alarm clock, standby mode works great. I use the pre-configured digital display option, which gives me the large digital clock on the left, as well as the day/date, temperature, and time of day. alarm time in small print on the right. Ideal! Just the information I need when I'm lying in bed, and nothing more. It works so well for me that my wife later purchased another pair for her side.
