AI server makers are hoping to win orders from Apple ahead of the highly anticipated unveiling of new AI features later this year, according to Taiwanese research firm TrendForce.
Server maker Supermicro is reportedly “aggressively expanding” its efforts to win AI-related orders from Apple. The company has the potential to double its AI server shipments this year, helped by orders from existing customers including CoreWeave and Tesla.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said late last year that Apple was expected to will spend about $4.75 billion on servers to support artificial intelligence technology in 2024, up from $620 million in 2023. The company could purchase up to 20,000 servers this year.
Apple is expected to announce a number of new artificial intelligence features. at WWDC later this year as part of a preview of iOS 18 and other software updates. At its annual shareholder meeting yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook said the company will “break new ground” in generative artificial intelligence in 2024. “We believe this will open up transformative opportunities for our users,” he added.
