Apple has disabled the Apple Music SharePlay feature it was testing for HomePod and Apple TV in the iOS 17.4 and tvOS 17.4 betas, suggesting the option may not be available when the updates roll out in March.
The first beta versions of tvOS 17.4 and iOS 17.4 included SharePlay music controls on both HomePod and and on iOS 17.4. Apple TV, but this functionality was removed in the second beta.
SharePlay is a feature that allows users to watch TV, listen to music, use apps and play games together via FaceTime, but Apple is expanding this feature . In iOS 17, CarPlay added the SharePlay feature, allowing everyone in the car to add songs to a shared playlist.
On HomePod and Apple TV, the SharePlay feature allowed users to generate a QR code (on iPhone for HomePod) that could be scanned to give friends and family the ability to play songs on the device. HomePod or Apple TV the owner must have an Apple Music subscription, but those who created content simply required the Music app without a subscription.
It's unclear whether Apple will bring SharePlay back to HomePod or Apple TV iOS 17.4 and tvOS 17.4 updates are due to launch, but SharePlay is not yet available in the two latest betas.
