Apple-owned Shazam has released an updated version of the app with a new feature that lets you identify songs from other apps while you listen to them on headphones.
Shazam has been able to recognize songs from other apps for some time, but if you use headphones connected to your iPhone, this feature has not worked so far. The latest version of the app, v17.3, removes this limitation.
This feature works with wired or Bluetooth headphones, and they don't have to be Apple-made accessories, so use third-party headphones. Headphones are also supported.
To use this feature, open the Shazam app, check the headphones icon to confirm the headphones are connected, and then you can start recognizing music around you or in apps. such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
Apple acquired Shazam in 2018 and has since been gradually moving the app closer to “Apple Music,” offering trials of the in-app streaming service and the ability to sync Shazam directly with “Apple Music.”
Shazam is free to download from the App Store. It can be accessed through Control Center on the iPhone and iPad, through Siri or Mac commands, and through widgets.
