A new Apple TV streaming box is rumored to be coming next year, and there's a chance the device will start at just $99 in the US.
Shortly after the launch of the current Apple TV 4K model in October 2022, Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted that the next Apple TV model will be “more affordable” than the current model. He said that a “sub-$100 price point” would be the “sweet spot” for the Apple TV, but exact pricing for the next model remains to be seen.
The 2010 and 2012 versions of the Apple TV were priced at $99 in the US at launch, and Apple eventually dropped the price of the 2012 model to $69, so there is precedent for a sub-$100 Apple TV that could better compete with cheaper streaming devices like the Google TV Streamer, which costs $99.99. Amazon and Roku offer even cheaper streaming box options, starting at $24.99.
In the US, the current Apple TV model starts at $129 with 64GB of storage, while a 128GB model with an extra Ethernet port is available for $149.
The next Apple TV model is rumored to feature a faster A-series chip and support for Wi-Fi 6E.
There are also rumors of a built-in camera for the upcoming Apple TV model. tvOS 17 added the FaceTime app to Apple TV, allowing users to make video calls using the rear camera on a connected iPhone or iPad. If the Apple TV were to get a built-in camera, users would no longer have to rely on an external device to make video calls on their TV.
It's unclear exactly when the new Apple TV will be released in 2025.
