OpenAI has announced a new Read Aloud feature in its official ChatGPT app for iPhone and iPad, which allows users to have a chatbot read responses out loud in one of five voice options.
In the app, tap and hold the chatbot's text response, then tap Read Aloud. You can also play, pause, or rewind the reading. This feature, which is also available in the web version of ChatGPT, adds another layer of voice interaction and builds on the existing voice chat feature, which gives users the ability to speak to a chatbot in a conversation rather than typing.
Read Aloud can speak 37 languages and can automatically detect the language of the text it is reading. OpenAI says the feature should improve accessibility for users with visual impairments or reading difficulties such as dyslexia. The company also hopes that the Read Aloud feature will improve engagement by personalizing the experience, while also promoting language learning.
