Apple releases third public beta of iOS 17.4 with changes to EU app ecosystem

Apple today made the third beta versions of the upcoming iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 updates available to public beta testers, allowing non-developers to test the software before release. The third public betas of iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 will arrive a week after Apple released the second betas.


Public beta testers can get the beta by opening the Settings app, going to Software Update, tapping the Beta Updates option, and switching iOS 17 or iPadOS 17 public beta Registration required on Apple's beta website.

The beta versions of iOS 17.4 and iPadOS 17.4 make a number of changes for users in the European Union, allowing the use of alternative app stores and alternative payment methods.

There are new options for choosing your default browser, NFC is open to banks and other financial institutions, and browsers are not required to use WebKit.

Along with these changes, the update also adds new emoji symbols, podcast transcripts, settings Safari, hints at what we can expect from the next generation of CarPlay, and more.
