Apple lowers AirPlay streaming resolution on Apple Vision Pro displays

Hours after specs claimed the Apple Vision Pro could stream 1080p video to an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV, the specs have been revised downwards.

Apple added the ability to select iPhone or iPad as an AirPlay target in iOS 17.2. As it turns out, this was intended for people not wearing Apple's Vision Pro headset to see what's happening on the internal screens.

Specifications first released Friday morning initially said AirPlay streams to target device. for example, an iPhone or Apple TV set-top box can have a resolution of “up to 1080p.” Late Friday, Apple revised that number down to 720p.
