Apple is spending 'enormous amounts of time and effort' on artificial intelligence, details to come 'later this year'

During today's earnings call covering the first fiscal quarter of 2024, Apple CEO Tim Cook commented on Apple's work on artificial intelligence. He said Apple is investing a “tremendous” amount of time and effort into artificial intelligence, with details to come later this year.

“As we look to the future, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future. This includes artificial intelligence, where we continue to spend a huge amount amount of time and effort, and we're excited to share details of our ongoing work in this area later this year.”

Rumors suggest Apple's upcoming iOS 18 software release could be the “biggest” yet software update in the device's history, rumored to have a host of artificial intelligence features.

Apple is reportedly working on generative artificial intelligence technology that will improve Siri, the Messages app and more. AI could be integrated into the operating system, into apps like Apple Music, Pages, Xcode and others.

Apple plans to include larger language models in ‌Siri‌ to allow ‌Siri‌ to automate complex tasks, allowing for deeper integration between ‌Siri‌ and the Shortcuts app.
