iPhone 16 Pro Max Beats All Rivals in Battery Life Test

iPhone 16 Pro Max Has the Best Battery Life

It's no surprise that the biggest smartphones from companies like Apple and Samsung have the longest battery life, because they have the biggest batteries — But new testing shows the iPhone 16 Pro Max beats them all.

Tech enthusiast site Tom's Guide has updated its battery life ratings for popular smartphones for the latest models from manufacturers. The testing showed that the iPhone 16 Pro Max's 4,685 mAh battery lasted 18 hours and six minutes.

For comparison, the Chinese smartphone OnePlus 12 lasted 17 hours and 37 minutes. That's the closest to the iPhone 16 Pro Max — but the OnePlus 12 has a larger 5,400 mAh battery.

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 Plus and Ultra models posted significantly lower results, at 16 hours, 46 minutes and 16 hours, 45 minutes, respectively.

Both of those scores were better than Apple’s iPhone 16 Plus, which scored 16 hours, 29 minutes. However, the iPhone 16 Plus has a smaller battery, at 4,674 mAh compared to the Samsung Galaxy S24 Plus’s 4,900 mAh.

A Big Jump in Battery Life

The regular iPhone 16, at 12 hours, 43 minutes, has significantly less battery life than its larger siblings in the range, but it still saw a battery life improvement of over an hour over the iPhone 15, which lasted 11 hours, 5 minutes. Likewise, the iPhone 16 Plus added more than two hours of battery life than the iPhone 15 Plus, which was rated at 14 hours and 14 minutes.

That’s a significant increase in just one year, and perhaps especially for the regular iPhones. There’s an even more notable increase for the iPhone 16 Pro models.

Specifically, the iPhone 16 Pro Max’s battery life beat the iPhone 15 Pro Max by just over four hours. The smaller iPhone 16 Pro beat the iPhone 15 Pro in battery life by three and a half hours.

By comparison, Google’s line of Pixel phones lagged behind the industry leaders. The regular Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro lasted about 13 and a half hours, while the Pixel 9 Pro XL lasted 14 hours and 37 minutes.

Please note that while all of these numbers were measured using real-world tests like web browsing over 5G, users won’t necessarily see such significant improvements in practice. This is because, for consistency in testing, all of the smartphones were set to 150 nits of brightness, while the iPhone 16 can reach up to 2,000 nits.

As always, battery life is a function of usage. But the iPhone 16 Pro Max has the potential to have the longest battery life, and all users will see benefits from it.
