Social media banter between leaders confirms that you can now buy cases for the iPhone 16. Even though this is a very bad idea.
Accessory makers are betting on the release of new iPhones. When Apple has released a new model over the past decade or so, it has almost always been different from the previous model.
This starts the money-printing machine. An ocean of cases and other add-ons appear within days of release, flooding the market.
However, before the flooding begins in earnest with the release of the new iPhone, the flow begins with a small number of things that Chinese accessory makers are taking a chance on. This river has already begun to flow.
However, do not buy these iPhone 16 cases now. They are a bad idea, and you are just burning money.
Rumor Factory Reminder
This time, the clue that you can buy the case early comes from a pair of insiders chatting publicly about the topic on X. On Tuesday, serial insider Majin Boo offered to tell people who write to them how to get an advance case for their iPhone 16.
They include a selection of renders, displaying iPhones in a selection of cases.
In response, another tipster known as Shrimp Apple Pro or @VnchocoTaco posted a screenshot from a discount shopping app showing the search term “iPhone 16 case.” All of the listings that appear show images of potential cases for the device, as well as descriptions referencing it by name.
Majin Boo responded that Shrimp's images depicted “low quality products, anyone could buy them.”
Shrimp's response states, “There won't be good quality [cases] until Apple announces the phone.” Instead, they show that people can “just buy it here for cheap instead of going through a shady third-party supplier.”

Although some may If If you're dying to buy an iPhone 16 or iPhone 16 Pro this fall, AppleInsider doesn't recommend purchasing accessories now.
Sellers try to have a large assortment in stock at the time of iPhone model launch. This is the period when consumers are most likely to buy accessories, so sellers try to make money on it.
However, Apple does not officially provide any assistance to accessory manufacturers before releasing new products. And even after its release, it does not provide any assistance to manufacturers that it considers unreliable.
This means that accessory makers working ahead of a release must rely on rumored information. In early June, all physical iPhone models and CAD images for fall releases are created based on accessory manufacturers' guesses about what will change between iPhone generations.
Of course, Apple partners with some accessory manufacturers for its own lines. Some information can and does leak to the rest of the industry from these suppliers.
Apple requires its partner suppliers to adhere to an incredibly strict code of conduct regarding the leaking of confidential information. So truly reliable information is rare.
Perhaps accessory manufacturers selling through Temu and Aliexpress can offer cases that fit the iPhone 16 perfectly. This is a very low probability and a risk that most people should not take.
Wait until the iPhone 16 actually comes out before buying accessories, the size of which depends on the exact dimensions of the device. Your patience will be rewarded.
