T-Mobile buys US cellular service; says rural coverage will improve

T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) and UScell ​​(NYSE: USM) today announced that T-Mobile has agreed to acquire substantially all of UScell's wireless businesses. This includes UScell's wireless customers and stores, as well as certain spectrum assets.

After closing, T-Mobile's leading 5G network will expand to provide millions of UScell ​​customers, especially in underserved rural areas, with a superior connectivity experience. transition from roaming outside of US cellular coverage to full nationwide access to the largest and fastest 5G network in the country.

Uncarrier says US Cellular customers can save money by switching to its own plans, but no one will force them to do so.

UScellular customers will be able to stay on their current plans or upgrade to the T-Mobile Unlimited plan of their choice without any switching costs, which includes their favorite Un- carrier, such as streaming and free international data roaming. If UScellular customers decide to switch to T-Mobile, they could save hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

US Cellular will retain some of its spectrum, and T-Mobile will enter into a licensing agreement for about 2,000 of the company's towers.
