This morning it was announced that T-Mobile is buying the majority of US Cellular in a deal that will cost a total of complexity of $4.4 billion.

T-Mobile announced the acquisition this morning.
T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) and UScell (NYSE: USM) today announced that T-Mobile has agreed to acquire substantially all of UScell's wireless businesses. This includes UScell's wireless customers and stores, as well as certain spectrum assets.
After closing, T-Mobile's leading 5G network will expand to provide millions of UScell customers, especially in underserved rural areas, with a superior connectivity experience. transition from roaming outside of US cellular coverage to full nationwide access to the largest and fastest 5G network in the country.
In addition, UScellular customers will be able to fully participate in industry-leading Un-carrier plans with many benefits and incentives, as well as best-in-class customer support with the potential to save UScellular customers hundreds of millions of dollars.
Customers T-Mobile will also gain access to UScellular's network in areas that previously had limited coverage and benefit from improved performance across UScellular's coverage by adding the acquired UScellular spectrum to T-Mobile's network.
Obviously that reducing one cell company also increases choice and competition.
And consumers wireless carriers across the country will benefit from the increased choice and competition that this proposed deal will create.
T-Mobile previously merged with Sprint back in 2020, and all Sprint branding was erased later that same year.
Uncarrier says US Cellular customers can save money by switching to its own plans, but no one will force them to do so.
UScellular customers will be able to stay on their current plans or upgrade to the T-Mobile Unlimited plan of their choice without any switching costs, which includes their favorite Un- carrier, such as streaming and free international data roaming. If UScellular customers decide to switch to T-Mobile, they could save hundreds of millions of dollars a year.
US Cellular will retain some of its spectrum, and T-Mobile will enter into a licensing agreement for about 2,000 of the company's towers.
