Apple is losing another designer who worked on Jony Ive's core team

Duncan Kerr, a designer who has been part of the Apple journey since the late 1990s, is now leaving, marking yet another a loss for the design team in a relatively short period of time.

In February, Apple lost designer Bart Andre, who had worked at the company since 1992. He was Apple's longest-serving industrial designer.

On Wednesday it became known that Kerr will also leave, although his plans are not yet known. Kerr has worked at Apple since 1999 and has been actively involved in the development of several generations of iPhone, iPad and Mac.

As Bloomberg notes, not many people remain from Ive's original team. Following Ive's departure in 2019, designers Jodi Akana, Anthony Ashcroft, Jeremy Bataille, Joe Tan, Eugene Wang and Andrea Williams left the Cupertino-based company.

There is reportedly a feeling of unease among employees due to recent leadership changes at Apple. Geoff Williams took over as head of the design team and allegedly introduced cost-cutting measures, which caused some concern. Additionally, there were rumors that Apple was winding down its research projects, which had been the hallmark of previous design chief Jony Ive.

However, some of these designers have been working at Apple for more than 25 years. Recent departures appear to be related to retirement rather than dissatisfaction, given the age of the participants.

For others, it may be greener pastures. Some of the core team left to work at LoveFrom, Quince's new design company.

Currently, only a small part of Ive's original team remains at Apple. These include Richard Howarth, Ben Shaffer and Molly Anderson.
