Apple rejected three macOS release candidates in one day

Arriving two days after the rest of the operating systems, the macOS 14.5 Release Candidate is now available alongside two older versions for testing before full release.

On Tuesday, Apple unveiled release candidates for iOS 17.5, iPadOS 17.5, tvOS 17.5 and watchOS 10.5. Two days later, RC has finally arrived for macOS Sonoma 14.5.

Developers participating in Apple's beta program can secure the latest builds from the Apple Developer Center or by updating hardware already running betas using the Settings app. Public betas are usually released shortly after developer versions and can be signed up for on Apple's beta testing program website.

RC macOS 14.5 has build number 23F79, replacing the fourth build 21O5580a.

At the same time as updating the main macOS Sonoma lineup, Apple is also updating some of its older operating systems. The RC version of macOS Monterey 12.7.5 is build 21H1222, and macOS Ventura 13.6.7 is build 22G720.

AppleInsider and Apple strongly discourage users from installing beta or release versions of operating systems on “mission-critical” or essential devices due to the risk of problems that could result in data loss. Instead, testers should use secondary or non-essential equipment and ensure that they have sufficient backups of critical data at all times.

Given that the availability of release candidates indicates that a proper public release will occur soon, it may be better to wait for that release.
