Rumor has it that the iPhone 16 will have a colored back glass again

Apple will use the same colored back glass used in the standard iPhone 15 models in the new iPhone 16, says a new rumor out of China.

Last year, Apple introduced special dual ion exchange glass technology on non-premium iPhone 15 models, which gives the back layer of glass a matte effect that contrasts with the main color of the frame.

Description of the Apple effect on iPhone 15:

“For the first time in a smartphone, color penetrates the back glass, creating five beautiful colors. The back glass is strengthened using an optimized double ion exchange, and then polished with nanocrystalline particles and etched to create a luxurious, textured matte finish.”

According to a fixed-focus leaker on Weibo who claims to have seen the iPhone 16 color scheme, Apple will use the same process for the rear window in newer models, of which there may be as many. this year there are seven colors instead of five.

Late last month, another Weibo source suggested that Apple may extend the dual ion exchange glass technology to the back of the iPhone 16 Pro, which is expected to have the same titanium frame as the iPhone 15 Pro. However, the source of today's leak does not mention the premium iPhone 16 models, and both Weibo accounts have yet to confirm the veracity of the Apple rumors.

Apple is expected to launch the iPhone 16 series around its usual mid-September window.
