Rumor on the street is that the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will have larger displays than ever before. Today, a new supply chain report details how Apple will achieve this goal, describing what it calls a “Borderline Reduction Framework.” – or BRS – display technology.
The Elec report explains that this BRS technology will make the iPhone 16 Pro’ Frames have become thinner thanks to the new complex system under the display. However, the change is reportedly proving difficult for Apple's suppliers, including LG Display and Samsung Display.
In fact, the report says that “no company” is working. has already reached production levels that meet Apple standards:
The OLED display of the iPhone 16 series uses Border Reduction Structure (BRS) technology, which makes the bottom frame thin. To implement a thin frame, the circuit under the frame must be placed more tightly and some of the wires must be bent, which increases the technical complexity. No company is known to have stabilized the production rate of iPhone OLED displays to the level that Apple expects.
Samsung Display is expected to introduce all four OLED displays with the iPhone 16 series this year. LG Display is also expected to aim to supply OLED in the top two lineups such as Pro and Pro Max, while BOE is expected to supply OLED in the lower two lineups such as the General and Plus models.
A previous rumor that surfaced last month went into more detail about BRS technology, explaining that the connection method could lead to overheating issues. However, Apple and its suppliers have reportedly addressed this issue with new heat-controlled heat dissipation technologies.
These reports do not provide any specific details about how much thinner the iPhone 16 Pro’ is. ; there will be frames. Rumors have it that the iPhone 16 Pro models will have larger displays without significantly increasing the overall footprint of the devices.
