Apple Store in New Jersey files to join union

Apple Short Hills in New Jersey has applied for joining the union and being represented by the Communications Workers of America.

Five Apple Stores in the United States applied to join the union, and only two successfully joined the union. It's an uphill battle for unionization efforts, as Apple has been accused of anti-union tactics and has previously been ruled by the National Labor Relations Board.

Apple Short Hills in New Jersey has applied to join the Communications Workers of America union, which represents employees, according to a Bloomberg report. If the unionization vote is successful, this will be the third Apple Store to unionize.

“We firmly believe that forming a union is the best way to ensure that all Apple workers receive the respect, pay, benefits and working conditions we deserve,” John Nagy, New Jersey organizing committee member. This is stated in a statement from the CWA. “While Apple has responded to the organization by violating workers' rights in stores across the country, we hope Apple leaders recognize their opportunity to remain on the cutting edge by taking a different approach.”

Stores in Atlanta and St. Louis also applied to join unions, but both stores refused to vote, claiming intimidation from Apple. Apple Towson in Maryland and Apple Penn Square in Oklahoma City successfully voted to unionize but have not yet reached a collective bargaining agreement with Apple.

Despite resistance from the NLRB, unionization efforts continue to face obstacles. Apple Short Hills is fighting to get the votes needed to form a union.
