Philips Hue app now supports widgets

Posted by Julie Clover

The Philips Hue app was updated to version 5.14 today, adding support for widgets. Hue widgets can be added to your home screen, lock screen, or Today view, and used to control lights and other accessories.

Widgets come in small, medium, and large sizes, with the largest widget supporting eight actions or scenes. ‌Widgets‌ can be adapted to the entire Hue Bridge or to lights located in specific rooms, so you can customize the widget for each of your rooms if you wish.

Each of the actions is customizable and you can select a scene from the app Hue or turn lights on or off in certain rooms. Dimming lights and activating automation are not possible, but some of this can be done using scenes. Adding a widget is a useful way to control frequently used lights or scenes.

Along with widgets, the update also improves Friends of Hue switches, such as the Lutron Aurora Smart Bulb Dimmer Switch. Switches now support time-based lighting, scene loop mode, natural light scene and more.

The Philips Hue app can be downloaded for free from the App Store. It is designed to work with Philips Hue lamps and accessories.
